Florida Sets Emergency Generator Rules for Nursing Homes

Scott and others have questioned why and how the deaths occurred, wondering why it took so long for the nursing home to call 911.

Almost 53,000 customers in Miami-Dade County are still without electricity as well. So far at least nine deaths have been tied to the storm in Monroe County, according to the Miami Herald.

More counties may be added to that list in the coming days.

Power outages hit other Southeastern states, including Georgia, where more than 125,000 homes and businesses did not have power Thursday. The woman's grandson managed to catch the teen, though his friend took off, police said.

Monroe County remains closed to anyone who is not a Keys resident or is working in official capacity with the hurricane relief effort.

Students in southwestern Florida also will miss another week of school.
