A California police officer shot a man after a struggle in a convenience store parking lot, a suspicious shooting that caused an instant backlash on the internet Frida.
The officer had been speaking with the man outside the convenience store before the confrontation suddenly turned violent, said Officer Angela Bennett, a police spokeswoman. Police did not quickly discharge different subtle elements, but rather soon after twelve Bennett said the man had passed on.
The officer can be heard saying "the suspect is down".
After that, an officer-involved shooting took place in which the male was injured and he was taken to hospital with unknown injuries, Bennett said, according to WTVR CBS 6 News. "Clearly this person attacked our police officer". In one video, the suspect is seen struggling with the officer on the ground and appears to pull something out of the officer's waistband. Sevens shots are then heard in the video. Both witnesses - neither of whom wanted to be identified - said the officer approached the man, who then swung a punch toward the officer.
"We're still in the very early stages of this investigation", she said Friday afternoon.
The officer picks up a radio and speaks into it, but it's not clear what he says.
The shooting occurred in the vicinity of Marina High School, which was put on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted at about 11:15 a.m.
