Actor Priyanka Chopra on Thursday apologised for her comment about Sikkim being a "troubled state".The actor and her production company, Purple Pebble Films, apologised to Sikkim's tourism minister, Ugen T Gyatso, the Hindustan Times reported. I am surprised that Priyanka made this comment because she is one of the best and intellectually sharpest actresses, and she speaks sensibly. She was discussing "Pahuna: The Little Visitors", her Sikkimese production which premiered at the gala.
Priyanka Chopra came under heavy criticism for calling Sikkim, a state troubled by insurgency. Of course, Twitter didn't forgive her for this mistake.
Sikkim is one of the most politically peaceful states of the country and the credit for it goes to the people of the state. She is a star in her own right and Sikkim is a star in its own right. This film is based on the story of two kids who get separated from their parents while fleeing the Maoist agitation from Nepal to Sikkim.
At one end, Priyanka Chopra felt offended by being called "brown" in America, but then labels a peaceful state like Sikkim suffering from insurgency.
Priyanka issued an apology to the government of Sikkim, and her mother, Madhu Chopra, also apologised to the Sikkim tourism minister Ugen Gyatso. "We should bury this issue without sensationalising it any further", he added. I was talking about the Sikkimese film industry and also the subject of the film, where I mentioned how Sikkim was grappling with the refugee situation caused by insurgencies. Speaking in an interview, Priyanka told ET Canada, "Sikkim is a small state in the North-east of India which never had a film industry or anyone who made a film from the region".
A quick Google search could have saved you from this embarrassment, Priyanka Chopra! We don't have any insurgency here.
Calling the Quantico actor "politically illiterate" the Tiwteratti trolled her.
"She definitely doesn't have her facts correct".
