Cops: Pregnant Woman Missing, Couple Found with Baby They Say Is Hers

Two suspects in the death of a North Dakota woman who was eight months pregnant when she disappeared will be arraigned Monday afternoon on charges including conspiracy to commit murder, a prosecutor said.

Kayakers on the Red River reportedly found the plastic-wrapped remains of 22-year-old Savanna Greywind on Sunday.

LaFontaine-Greywind was eight months pregnant when she went missing on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Police searched the apartment of Crews and Hoehn and discovered a newborn infant believed to be the baby of Greywind.

Crews and Hoehn are being held at the Cass County Jail on charges of felony conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office is handling the search and investigation of the farmstead, Fargo Police Chief David Todd said.

Now the couple who have been the focus of investigators are set to appear in court to be formally charged, have their bail set, and a schedule of court appearances announced, said Cass County State's Attorney Birch P. Burdick.

Chairman Keplin Belcourt is inviting members from Spirit Lake for a prayer vigil for Savannah Greywind, baby and family Monday at 8 p.m.at Turtle Mountain High School football field in Belcourt.

'The team that was searching, when they went to that house, they found some things that were very, very suspicious, ' he said.

Greywind, a nursing assistant at a senior care facility, was last seen at the apartment of Crews and Hoehn, where she had gone to help with a sewing project.

There was no indication of Savanna or a child during those three searches, the detective said. "That's what brought us there". Greywind's body will be sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

The quest to find Greywind intensified when police found the baby Thursday and arrested Crews and Hoehn on suspicion of kidnapping.

Duluth News Tribune reported that Norberta LaFontaine-Greywind told the paper: "I immediately knew something was wrong because her auto is here".

"They said it's solid, yet they're running more tests", Ashton Matheny said Thursday.

The gruesome discovery comes more than a week after LaFontaine-Greywind vanished on August 19. Whether Savannah had been taken to a farmstead near where her body was found, forced into induced labor, or was she killed and then had the baby yanked out? "They are women who need to cement a relationship with a male significant other".
