Jose Mourinho: Marouane Fellaini not leaving Manchester United

A thunderous Lukaku header from a swirling Andreas Pereira corner made it 2-0 just after the restart and gave United's imposing new striker his third pre-season goal.

And Fellaini appears to have been deemed surplus to requirements, though he is in United's squad for Sunday's friendly with Valerenga.

He had a number of very good showings in a United shirt a year ago, but the main complaint his detractors will have is that his presence encourages "long-ball" tactics.

That was until Fellaini struck with just over a minute to go before the break, the Belgium international's header from a Mkhitaryan cross deflecting past goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey and into the net. A transfer fee is yet to be agreed but the deal is so progressed that is it hoped the player will join before United take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on August 8.

Asked about Matic, the United boss said: "I am waiting for news".

Fellaini has a year left on his contract and, with Nemanja Matic seemingly on his way to Old Trafford, might face more of a fight for a starting role next season.

Fellaini got the opening goal in Norway despite claims from Galatasaray on Saturday they are "close" to signing the Belgian midfielder. Number 31 is a free number. "We have a few free and 31 is one of them". "Marouane forget it. He's very important for me".

Mourinho said: "I could answer in many different ways but I am not going to lose my hair to speak about Antonio's comments".

Fellaini scored the opener for United in Oslo with Romelu Lukaku grabbing the second.

Mourinho's side continued to dictate the play but chances were scarce against a compact Valerenga defence, with a speculative effort from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and a teasing Daley Blind cross looking likely to be the closest they came to a first-half breakthrough.
