The other obvious statement (at least to me) is Blount will not rush for 1,000 yards next season like he did in 2016.
That one-year, $1.1 million deal was exceeded by the Eagles with the potential for $2.8 million next season. With Blount now in the mix, it's hard to see Clement, who rushed for over 1,000 yards as a Badger past year, making the roster as an undrafted free agent.
Blount is now 30 years old, but has missed only four games during the past four seasons.
The Patriots were expected to move on from Blount after the team acquired Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee in the offseason.
ESPN's Adam Schefter cited a team official in his report about the 1-year deal. He reunited with the Patriots and helped them on the way to the Super Bowl by accounting for 148 yards and three scores in the AFC title game win over the Colts.
"We've been looking at that position for the last month or two, through the draft, and we think bringing LeGarrette in here is a good fit for both sides".
"Blount, 6'0", 250-pounds, clearly provides the Eagles with a big, early-down veteran running back they desperately needed. But the opportunity looks far better for Blount in Philadelphia.
Blount is coming off career highs in rushing attempts (299), yards (1,161) and touchdowns (18), but his average of 3.9 yards per attempt in 2016 was the second lowest of his career.
Blount is again joining a crowded backfield, one that will feature Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, Donnel Pumphrey and Corey Clement all competing for touches (and in some cases roster spots) this summer.
Mathews is set to count $5 million against the cap this upcoming season.
In the first game of the season, Blount sucker-punched a Boise State player after Oregon's loss.
