As expected, Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus topped this listing.
If asked "what was the best selling Android smartphone in Q1 2017", many would think of Samsung's smartphones, but they would be wrong. China's rising brand, Oppo R9s was in third place with almost nine-million sold, followed by Samsung's Galaxy J3 with a bit over six-million. The top five models represented one out of every six phones shipped in the quarter.
In second place was the larger and more expensive iPhone 7 Plus, with an estimated 17.4 million units sipped and 5% of the market. OPPO is wildly popular in China and growing rapidly across India.
"According to the Q1 2017 MOVR", the report summary reads, "the Apple iPhone 6S became the most used in February 2017 and is now at nearly 8% of all global smartphone browsing". "The R9s is OPPO's flagship 4G device with key features such as dual-SIM connectivity and fingerprint security".
The iPhone 7, the flagship smartphone of USA tech giant Apple Inc., was the most sold handset around the globe in the first quarter, data showed Thursday, while Samsung Electronics Co. mostly shipped budget models over the cited period.
The OPPO R9s, which runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, comes with an attractive physical design with a thickness of 6.58mm.

As for Samsung, it took up fourth and fifth place with the cheaper Galaxy J3 and J5 smartphones.
Samsung's first quarter sales of smartphones in China have declined by 60% year on year to around 3.5 million units, according to the Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Technology Market Research company.
"Vivo's X9 model was in the top 10 globally in the first quarter, but all other models from Vivo, Huawei Technologies, Xiaomi and Lenovo Group were outside the top 10", Mawston said.
