Malia Obama, President Obama's Daughter, Graduates From High School

Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of the president, graduated from Sidwell Friends School on June the 10. In January, Obama said he declined an invitation to speak at the graduation because he knew he would be too emotional.

"I'm going to be sitting there with dark glasses, sobbing", he told TV host Ellen DeGeneres earlier this year. The youngest Obama daughter has come a long way from plaid shorts and pigtail braids, but then again, would you expect anything less from the offspring of a style ambassador like Michelle Obama?

Those protestations aside, Obama and his daughters have a close bond, even amid the intense schedules of presidential travel and meetings. However, the president won't be moving far from his current address, as the first family plans to remain in D.C. until his youngest daughter Sasha finishes out her high school career.

Obama describes Malia as one of his best friends, and their nightly talks influenced his thinking on social issues like gay marriage.
